What is Form I-765 utilized for?

Certain foreign nationals, who are eligible to operate in the United States, use Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, to request permission to work. When employing employees, U.S. companies need to ask for evidence of the employee's right to work.

U.S. residents and legal long-term homeowners (permit holders) might work without asking for special consent. Some nonimmigrants, short-lived in nature, might be approved employment authorization upon demand from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). However, not all nonimmigrants are qualified for this benefit. Individuals granted employment authorization with an accepted Form I-765 get a work authorization document.
